My Experience
Talkatone is a solid alternative to Google Voice when you can't get past the US IP requirement. It gives you a US phone number that works over WiFi, and the initial activation only costs $0.99.
The free tier includes ads and has some limitations, but for receiving SMS verification codes and occasional calls, it gets the job done. Call quality is decent on a stable WiFi connection.
I'd recommend Google Voice first if you can manage the setup, but Talkatone is a good fallback option that's easier to get started with.
